Copycat's "Mashups of the year"

You might've seen my Best of 2008 charts over at Audio Porn Central or Culture Bully - well, here they are again, just in case you've missed them. Let's start with the impossible task of my Mashups of the year. And no, Girl Talk's not even close to make this list.

In no particular order:
Bonus: Reckoner Lockdown - Earworm

All of the tracks can be downloaded over at the artist's sites respectively - or over at Culture Bully.

After completing this list just before x-mas, I listened to Team9's annual MySplice compilation for Stereogum. If I'd heard that album prior to posting my list, I'd definitely include his "Good after time", mixing Lykke Li's "I'm Good I'm Gone" with Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time". One of the absolutely best mash-ups of 2008. Maybe ever.

Tainted tainted love (A Copycat Mash)

You ever wondered what it would sound like if you took the original "Tainted love" by Gloria Jones and mixed it up with Soft Cell's brilliant cover from the 80s. No? Well I did. And I had to find out. So I did this little quickie a while ago.

Never posted it here, tho. Gave it to Ramdom Thoughts for their 100th episode back in May. Thought I drop it here now as well. Quite fun little ditty...

Who's that Hollaback girl? (A Copycat Mash)

Ok, so this might not be the most urgent track of '09. My only excuse is that it's done in 2005, when both tracks were quite new. But I still like it quite a lot. Despite ms Stefani's participation...

It's Robyn's collaboration with The Knife, the tremendous "Who's that girl?" vs ms Obnoxious' highly annoying "Hollaback girl". My apologies...

Previously only aired on Swedish radio and Ramdom Thoughts. But here's your chance to get your hands on the mp3.

Tying Tiffany - I wanna be your MP3
(A Copycat Remix)

Just before Christmas, I was invited to contribute to Audio Porn Central's Guilty Pleasures series. Following the success of APC's tribute to Rick Astley, the object of worship this time was Italian electro punk queen Tying Tiffany and her "I wanna be your MP3".

I opted for a free-for-all electro-disco-punk-house remix having it large in all ways possible. Reports from the TT camp have it that Tiff liked it. Both my version and the rest of the tracks, including contributions from the likes of Go Home Productions, Divide & Kreate, Dunproofin' , and Celebrity Murder Party. And if things go as planned - which they rarely do in these cases - they might just face an official release of sorts one of these days.

Until then, you will have to make do with the long mix, including all remixes, by no other than Mr. Simon Iddol. Listen to it in the Fairtilizer player to your right - or here below . Mine's after the sixth APC logo. If you want to download it, try the player below - or pop over to APC and grab it.

Copycat on iGot's Best Mashups of 2008

Here's another nice little belated x-mas gift. Japanese iGot ranks my "Stand by for the floor" (Hot Chip's "Ready for the floor" vs Ben E King's classic "Stand by me") among the best mash-ups of 2008.

Honoured and very grateful - cheers Homma!

Copycat among the best of 2008...

This time of year there is an infinite amount of "best of"-lists floating about. I'm happy to say that some of them seem to be partial to felines...

My "Singing that A-Ha Melody", in which A-Ha's "Take on me" hooks up with Swingfly's "Singing that melody", made it to Attuworld's Mashups of the year album. Thanks Attu! And special thanks to Simon Iddol!

"A Smalltown Monday Solution" - New order vs Bronski beat vs Superbass vs more - made it to #4 over at Culture Bully's Top 15 mashups of 2008. Last year my ABBA vs Nelly Furtado mash-up "Knowing the rhythm is right" made it all the way to #1 on the same list. Apparently, I'm starting to lose my touch... Just kidding - I'm honoured. Thanks Chris@Culture Bully!

AudioPornCentral ranked "A Smalltown Monday Solution" as the sixth best mash-up of the year in their aggregate list, whereas one of the editors ranked it #1. Pretty good, n'est-ce pas? Thank you guys!

And finally, Dj Bynar of Waveradio.gr also considers "A Smalltown Monday Solution" to be the best mash-up of 2008. Efaristo, brother! I agree ;)

My apologies if I missed anyone. If so, just drop me a line and I'll update.

Thanks again! /Cc

Happy new year, folks!

Happy 2009! The cat's back after a well-deserved vacation. Santa was kind enough to bring a few tunes this x-mas. I thought I'd share them with you in the next few posts.

Quite a few things cooking at the moment. Hopefully I'll be able to share some of it with you presently. Stay tuned - cat you later ;)
