Finally a new ABBA mash-up!

You ready for some glammy electro punk pop?
This baby just begged to be done. Thematically as well as musically. Bits of it have been lying on my hard drive for ages, patiently awaiting my attention. And finally, I got around to finish it.
Originally written for the next Buzzcocks album, ”Homosapien” became the first solo single for front man Pete Shelley back in the very early 80s. It allowed him to explore his fascination for electronic music, while combining it with the energetic, hit-friendly, poppy punk pulse that earned Buzzcocks their well-deserved stars in Rock history. However, with its not so implicit homosexual allusions, the song promptly got banned by the rather prudish Beeb, somewhat denying it the exposure it deserved then and still deserves to this day.
In my book, it’s a brilliant track. And its lyrics make it an ideal partner for the other tune in this combo, ”Does your mother know” by Abba. I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to fill in the dots yourselves... The two songs also share a next to identical pulsating bassline, which you’ll no doubt recognize after only a few notes.
Production-wise, this remix was a bit of a struggle. What with Abba’s fuzzy, groovy and not so very tight seventies style of playing and producing trying to hook up with Shelley’s clinical, edgy and cool programmed electric sound of the early eighties. Still, I hope I managed to find some decent common ground. And I really hope you’ll like it, my technical shortcomings notwithstanding.
Here’s “Does your homosapien know?”. Go crazy. Punch a higher floor...

Very nice.
Thank you Mikey!
Pete Shelley is one of my all-time favorite musicians, and today is his 53rd birthday. I was hoping to celebrate the occasion by finding some shiny nugget of his that I might have missed--a 12" single or some such oddment. I stumbled across this mashup and was absolutely in love with it before I was halfway in; I've been playing it all day since then. Thank you *very* much for this--you've entirely made my day!
Hey jg, thanks! Glad you liked it. I'm also very fond of his work. Especially the Buzzcocks years. But his first solo album is a corker.
Here's to good ol' Pete!
Cheers! /Cc
