Copycat's Top 10 August
@ AudioPorn Central

That time of month again... As usual, to get the full official APC Top 10, go to audioporncentral.com. There you'll also find the editors' individual charts. Here's mine for August.

#01 Chromeo – Don’t turn the lights on (Aeroplane remix) [link]
Slick as f**k, laidback, summery disco. Outstanding!
#02 5EYA – As Its Loud [link]
Phonat’s Dj partner and flat mate 5EYA just kills it with this brilliant disco tune
#03 The Raveonettes – I Wanna Be Adored [link]
Magic cover of The Stone Roses classic!
#04 The XX – Shelter (Tiga remix) [link]
One of my fave tunes in a brilliant Tiga remix.
#05 HURTS ft. Kylie Minogue – Devotion [link]
Match made in heaven – lovely!
#06 Clubfeet – Say Something [link]
Brilliant cover of one of the best James tunes ever!
#07 Grum – Through the night [link]
Epic 80s disco flirt from one of my fave producers
#08 Robyn – Hang with me [link]
The obligatory Robyn entry… She had me at the arps in the very beginning…
#09 Oh Land – Sun of a Gun [link]
Very cool debut (?) by Danish knock-out Oh Land. Now, check out the remixes…
#10 Howls – Hammock [link]
“Those Larry Hagman blues”, how can you NOT fall for a line like that?

Honourable mash-up mentions:
#01 Go Home Productions – Smells Like Rockin’ Robin [link]
Insane. Classic, for sure.
#02 Bynar – Broken by angels [link]
Epic, cinematic and haunting. Like the proverbial glove. Smell it!
#03 Phil RetroSpector – Chasing The Broken Hearted [link]
I truly hate Snow Patrol and the like – but mashing them with Jimmy Ruffin’s classic is nothing short of ingenius.

My Robyn remix #5 on
Toronto Star's Anti-Hit List

Says the editor over at Canada's biggest daily, mr John Sakamoto:

Given the initial reaction to the original, it’s possible that Robyn’s current single will end up having a considerably more robust life in the unauthorized wilds of the web. First there was DJ Schmolli’s amusing AC/DC mash-up. Now comes this beautifully realized remix, whose sound is perfectly captured by the song’s parenthetical subtitle. While the “FM” might refer to the radio, it could just as easily be a reference to Fleetwood Mac, whose mid-’70s heyday this overhaul so expertly evokes.

Thanks John!

Robyn - Dancing on my own
(Copycat's Sundrenched FM Remix)

Very sunny, very west coast, very convertible - possibly even very Fleetwood Mac.
Put simply; very FM...

Have a great summer kids!

Swedish Boot Mafia does Veronica Maggio

Swedish Boot Mafia
consists of Copycat, Divide & Kreate, and Nachoman, and is our little side project for playing around with all things Swedish - and more.

Here's the third installment in our
Swedish Boot Mafia series.

The third artist to get the Swedish Boot Mafia treatment is
Veronica Maggio.

Veronica Maggio is a Swedish singer with Italian origin. She became a household name in Sweden immediately after releasing her first single, "Dumpa mig" (Dump me), which was a huge hit in Sweden, with ample airplay.

A subsequent follow-up single, a major contract, a debut album and a national tour later, she was awarded the "Newcomer of the year" prize in the Swedish Grammy Awards.

"
Måndagsbarn" (Monday child) was the first single from her 2nd album and it came out in 2008. It was popular in Scandinavia, but The Swedish Boot Mafia felt that we should give it a little give it a little make-over - and present it to the world anew.

Make sure you follow the Swedish Boot Mafia blog for more exciting news:

Copycat's Top 10 June
@ AudioPorn Central

Alright kittens? Summer's finally and officially here - which means that the cat's retreating to his porch to do fuck-all - with the tiny exception of drinking rosé in the shade. Here's what he'll be listening to while doing so.
As usual, the full, aggregate official APC Top 10 - over HERE.
#01 Annie – Songs Remind Me Of You (The Swiss & Donnie Sloan remix) [link]
Because this is what I’ll dance to this summer…
#02 Rusko ft. Amber Coffman – Hold On [link]
Because it’s fresh…
#03 Robyn – Dancing On My Own (LIVE on BBC’s Radio 1) [link]
Because this song only gets better and better with each version…
#04 MGMT – It’s Working [link]
Because it not only works, it’s brilliant…
#05 Moullinex – Superman (12″) [link]
Because they sampled the drums from Fox the Fox “Precious little diamond”…
#06 She is Danger – Who’s that girl (Eurythmics cover) [link]
Because it haunts me…
#07 PETS – A Good Day for Telling Lies [link]
Because summer’s finally here…
#08 Delorean- Stay Close [link]
Because it goes well with my shiraz rosé on the porch…
#09 Crystal Castles – Suffocation (Memory Tapes remix) [link]
Because this is as poppy as you’ll ever hear Crystal Castles…
#10 The Like – He’s Not A Boy [link]
Because it swept me off my feet…

Copycat's Top 10 May
@ AudioPorn Central

May was a tremendous music month. I had a very hard time picking my top 10, but after some serious consideration, here's finally May's best tunes. In the comments you'll find some 20 worthy runner-ups (told you it was a good month...). As usual, the full, aggregate and official APC top ten can be found here.

#1 Smoosh – The World’s Not Bad [link]
Simply the most beatiful tune this year. Hence a worthy #1.
#2 Yeasayer – O.N.E [link]
Chirpy happy-go-lucky feel and yet profoundly pensive and melancholy. Bittersweet pop!
#3 Metric – It’s a sin (Pet Shop Boys cover) [link]
Fantastic cover of PSB’s classic. Very good.
#4 Scissor Sisters – Invisible Light [link]
Epic and passionate disco. I haven’t felt like this since Trevor Horn was killing everything with his megalomaniac productions!
#5 Noisettes – Ever Fallen In Love With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve [link]
Another superb cover. This time of one of my all time fave tunes.
#6 Hot Chip – I feel better (Ill Blue Dub) [link]
Haunting, addictive little dub job from Ill Blue. Lovely.
#7 Peter Morén – Ett land som inte är [link]
A lovely little pop gem by Peter Morén. (of Peter Bjorn and John fame).
#8 Cults – Go Outside [link]
Perfect salute to the arrival of spring – finally…
#9 Robyn – Dancing on my own (Rex the Dog Remix) [link]
The original’s fantastic as it is. But Robyn gave us a handful of great remixes as well. My current fave is Rex’ rmx.
#10 OMD – Sister Marie Says [link]
Brilliant comeback by Andy & Co. Sounds like the good old days
